Cleaner Fuel for Cruise Ships?

According to the LA Times Thursday July 25, 2008 California mandated that vessels use cleaner fuels or pay huge fines. The rule takes effect in 2009 and would require ships within 24 nautical miles of California to burn low-sulfur diesel instead of the tar-like sludge known as bunker fuel. This ruling of course affects cruise ships. So what is bunker fuel and how does it affect the environment and our health?

Have Documents? Will travel on a cruise.

After months of planning, it will be a shame to see your vacation vaporize before your eyes because you overlooked some important travel documentation. Here are a few pointers to make your trip memorable – in a good way.

Cruise Ships and the little cruisers

The fun thing about a cruise vacation is that mum and dad can have a romantic time and bring the kids along. Cruise lines have ships that cater for family with children and have provided age specific activities for them to enjoy, whilst giving the parents time to themselves. Let us look at some things to keep in mind when planning a cruise with your little cruisers.

The Disney Cruise - Romance Welcome

When we hear the word ‘Disney’ what comes to mind? Family, kids, Disney’s Under the Sea (my favorite), Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, Disney World, etc. So it is natural that when we think of Disney Cruise, we automatically think that is it only for family with kids. But did you know that Romance is on this family ship? You can take the whole family and have a romantic vacation at the same time. Let’s take a tour – for adults only.

What to wear on your cruise vacation

I remember my first cruise. I did not know what to wear on board. I was afraid of being overdressed or underdressed. So I packed a little of everything and boy was my suitcase heavy!

Cruise Ships' Quest for Innovation

As more and more vacationers take to the high seas, cruise lines are building more ships to meet up with demand. To be more competitive, the cruise lines have turned to innovation to draw cruisers to their ships. Let’s take a look at their innovative ideas.

The Nile Cruise

The beauty of cruises is that you can sail anywhere in the world. They are not just for the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. There are cruises to other parts of the world like Egypt’s River Nile. Known as the birth of civilization, The Nile takes you on a journey into the pharoric ancient past.

Environmental Policies and Cruise Lines

Cruise ships have been described as floating resorts or floating cities. Like any resort or city, there is the question of how to treat and dispose waste. Wastes discharged from ships are sewage, grey water (i.e. laundries, showers and kitchen), solid waste (food and garbage) and waste from oil and grease. Diesel exhaust is also dispelled into the air. With cruise lines building bigger ships that will soon carry over 6,000 people, how do they get rid of all that waste?

Exercise your mind on a cruise ship

Cruise ships are truly a floating vacation paradise. It offers numerous activities for every interest and age group imaginable. On a typical cruise you can enjoy exquisite dinning, swim, dance, do rock climbing, go to the movies, enjoy professional Broadway shows, concerts, experience the latest in spa treatments and visit exotic places around the world. Did you know that you can also exercise your grey matter?
