Washington, D, C, & You: Cruise Travel Document Requirements

Washington, D, C, & You: Cruise Travel Document Requirements

On March 27th, the Department of State released its 151 page (in PDF) Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) detailing that “travelers present a passport or other approved secure document denoting citizenship and identity for all land and sea travel into the United States.” Cruise travel documents requirements have, as of yet, been hypnotically difficult. Seadream Yacht Club has changed its monetary policy. Starting today, the company will charge euros for bookings made in Europe and dollars for everyone else. Onboard expenses will be charged in dollars.

The policy was changed to make it more convenient for Europeans and the company and save them exchange fees. The company had to convert euros to dollars and then back into euros to pay bills for European expenses. It is a plus for Americans to sail in Europe on a ship that prices everything in US dollars.
