Caribbean Casinos: An Island Vegas?

Most people automatically think of a Las Vegas trip when they want to add gambling to their vacation plans. Imagine, however, a beautiful island getaway along with gambling for your vacation, and you have a trip to the Caribbean.

At least a dozen of the Caribbean islands offer casino gambling as a tourist feature. The Bahamas, Aruba, St. Maarten’s, St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. Kitts all feature some type of casino action in addition to their more well known white, sandy beaches and incredibly blue skies. Some very small casual joints, but others are expansive and luxurious, such as the Atlantis Resort.

There can be little question that the Atlantis Resort is the most extravagant casino in the entire Caribbean venue. Designed to mimic the famed lost continent of Atlantis, the resort offers deluxe accommodations to their guests along with a huge water park, fantastic aquariums and dolphin habitats. The design of the building and grounds follows the theme of the lost continent, with décor and accessories throughout. Their main attraction, however, consists of the 80 game tables and 875 slot machines.

While the Atlantis Resort and Casino is possibly the largest and best known of the Caribbean casinos, others such as the Crystal Palace Casino at Cable Beach and Our Lucaya Beach and Golf Resort on Grand Bahama Island also bear mention.

Before planning a beach and casino getaway to the Caribbean, be sure to check on local gambling regulations at each island. Gambling ages often vary; in the United States, an individual must be at least 21 years of age to gamble. On many of the islands, however, eighteen year olds are allowed to play. Types of currency accepted may also vary, with some accepting only American dollars while others will accept both dollars and pesos.

Combining the popular beaches with exciting gaming at Caribbean casinos can add up to great fun for an ultimate vacation getaway.
