I read the post by Jim B about bad weather, and I’ve been thinking along the same lines. What does happen if you are on the cruise ship and a tropical storm or hurricane is in the direct path of where the ship is? Or if the storm is headed for one of the same ports that your cruise ship is? I know that the ship gets re-directed, but what if there is nowhere to go? After all, a lot of destinations are islands; it’s not like there’s a lot of choice! What happens if you are on a cruise in bad weather?

Well, the cruise lines watch their ships pretty closely, and take their responsibility for their passengers pretty seriously. They have folks just watching the storm and ready to move their ships out of the way. When you are already at sea and bad weather is approaching, the cruise ship will change course to avoid the storm. They do care about their passengers, and know that they came on a cruise for a vacation, so they will change the itinerary and go somewhere else that is outside the hurricane zone. There is always somewhere else, even if it is just out in calm waters. And keep in mind that ships usually only reroute if it is a hurricane, not just because of a big thunderstorm. Then, you just have to bite the bullet and enjoy indoor activities.
