Cruise Ship tips and tricks

Since I am planning my first cruise in a long time, I’m going to put a question out to all you veteran cruisers: What kind of cruise ship tips and tricks should I know to get the best experience from my cruise? I’ll be taking the cruise with my wife and two kids, so any suggestions for adults or kids would be appreciated. You always hear people say after the fact, “if I’d only known that before”; so I guess you could say I want to know those things before the cruise. Anything from getting on, going ashore, getting off, just getting the best experience possible.
