Galapagos Travel - Cruise travel in South America

As I mentioned In an earlier post, I am really interested in going to the Galapagos Islands on a cruise after seeing a program on television about the area. I’m hoping someone will have some cruise tips on Galapagos travel, and cruise travel in South America in general.

I am captivated by the wildlife that is on the island, and the remoteness of the area. What I’m looking for is input from someone who knows something of the area in general that can offer me some tips on traveling in South America, but hopefully particularly around the Galapagos. Can anyone help?

The Galapagos would be a great trip. With the tortoises, lizards and many varieties of birds, the wildlife alone would be worth the trip! To travel to Ecuador and then cruise to the island, first you need to have a valid passport and a tourist card also, that will be supplied to you. Most people speak English, but Spanish is their first language, so be prepared with translators if you don’t speak Spanish.

Also, it does get pretty cool there, so pack accordingly. You can choose either a tour, which involves a day trip to the island, some kayaking, diving, hiking and snorkeling at your choosing; or a cruise aboard a luxury catamaran for spans of 4 days to 8 days. Small cruises can be as few as 15 people or as many as 100. You can customize the trip then concentrate on what you want to do and for how long.
