Despite a less than desirable economy, people all over are still longing to take a vacation. Especially in hard times, the need to escape the stress and reality of everyday life is a natural response. And while money to take a long, luxurious vacation may be hard if not impossible to come by, a small sum spent for a day’s worth of enjoyable relaxation may not be.
No matter where you are in the United States, nearby will be some type of miniature escape. A day at an amusement park; several hours spent fishing on a scenic shoreline or quiet lake; professional sport field or natural attraction; all of these can provide just the right type of getaway that will prove to be a release and a much needed haven away from your daily structure.
Every state has a tourist draw, although locals visit them less than tourists do. Odd habit we have; visiting our own backyards last. However, this is the perfect time to do so. A day trip or a weekend venture, local trips are not only convenient but inexpensive as well. Massachusetts has Plymouth Rock, Salem, Boston, Cape Cod and miles of ocean shoreline; Texas has numerous ranches and missions as well as the Mexican border; South Dakota has the Black Hills; California has Big Sur and Arizona has beautiful Sedona. Everywhere you go in the United States, there are natural wonders and beauties to see, and interesting history and culture in which to immerse oneself.
Not to be overlooked are day trip possibilities. Who says we must be limited to one week long vacation per year? Enjoy a daycation each and every weekend if you wish! Zoos, museums, zoological and horticultural parks, amusement parks, canoe or kayak trips, hiking expeditions, and even professional or semi professional baseball games are great getaways and daycations.
Okay, so the economy may prohibit you from taking an extended and exotic vacation. It doesn’t have to stop you from enjoying even more relaxation on a more frequent basis, though. These trips are much less expensive than a full vacation, and easily double the fun. Take the time this year to explore your own state and local area for a cheap and very enjoyable summer.
