In a lifetime, it is calculated that people spend more time with co-workers than they do with their own families. The valuable vacation time is much anticipated as being relaxing, enjoyable and carefree. So the question among parents may be: should kids come on cruise vacations?

Many parents struggle with this decision. Family time, of course, should be at the forefront of the consideration. With so little quality time available in most people’s busy lives, every possible moment spent as a family unit is precious. Vacation time is no exception. Cost may also be a concern, with many families on budgets. Another factor may be that parents may wish to be alone and spend time apart from their children.

As the day draws to a close, though, the family unit reconnects at dinner; sharing their exciting and fun adventures in a way that can only bring the family closer.

To enjoy shared family time, shore expeditions can offer a great opportunity. Exploring the port of call, experiencing other cultures or just playing at the beach will surely find common ground with kids as well as parents, and can offer educational experiences for the kids.

As far as cost is considered, it doesn’t necessary have to be a factor when parents are deciding if their kids should come on cruise vacations. Many cruise lines offer specials where kids cruise at discounted rates; or in some cases, free. Checking with different cruise lines for their policies on kid’s rates will help parents to plan if budgeting is an issue.

For most families, it is evident that the question “should kids come on cruise vacations” is a resounding YES. Based on the number of cruising kids and the increasing amount of youth-oriented activities presented by cruise lines, it seems apparent that a large percentage of parents are cruising with their kids. With activities and attractions that appeal to everyone, cruises offer perfect family vacation opportunities.
