I was on a jogging trail doing my workout routine. Somehow I overheard two active athletes who seem like good friends ahead of me having a conversation. One of them mentioned, "I have never gone on a cruise vacation and wonder why so many people are getting in to it”
The other friend responded excitedly about her first cruise vacation experience.
She explained how she was surprise to find the ship so big and spacious. It was like a maze, she had to struggle to find her way around the first few days. She talked about the beautiful scenery just looking across the ocean with different shades of blue. It was so relaxing. She talked about how she enjoyed just laying down doing nothing. It felt so good not having any chores, or driving, or cleaning to do.
The crew members were always courteous and smiling. The food was just excellent. It was incredible with so many dinning choices throughout the day all in well kept and pleasant surrounding. Taking a cruise was the best vacation decision she had made. She took salsa dance lessons onboard. She had so much fun, she even ventured singing Karaoke in public.
She rambled on about how she did the spa aroma therapy, the shore excursion tours, sight seeing and shopping, she had a blast. She never wanted to get off and was even tempted to stay onboard for a few extra days. She was surprised that her greatest benefit was upon her return home. She noticed she was so relaxed and free from all her stress which had build up before leaving.
Right then and there I reflected on my first cruise trip in 2001. I took a challenge and discovered how powerful a cruise vacation can be to our sense of well being. It strengthened my love relationship and prepared me to cope with my daily life challenges
That was almost 8 years ago and even today I still come across so many people who have never gone on a cruise vacation.
Is it because they are not interested in getting rest and relaxation, or enjoy spending quality time with their loved ones? Don’t they like to have more value for their hard earned money?
Of course not.
I know some of the reasons are to do with safety and finance -- some are still uncomfortable about all the hurricanes and tornadoes and media talk about norovirus spreading onboard.
The ships can change their path to avoid hurricanes and stormy weather. I bet a holiday resort on land can’t do that. So you see, you have no worries about safety as cruises avoid hurricanes rather than confront them. The worst that can happen to you is to end up with a different itinerary – what an adventure!
Cruise ship’s outbreak of diseases has decreased dramatically since the formation of the Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) in 1975 by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). While incidents have been noted on cruises, the chance of contracting the virus is no greater on a cruise ship than anywhere else. In fact, because cruise ships have extremely high standards for sanitation quality, passengers do not have any increased chance for getting the virus when traveling on a cruise.
Some may be thinking that it cost a lot to go on a cruise and are unaware that almost any one can go on a cruise these days. San Francisco Chronicle November 2 2008 reported that “The drop in cruise bookings has been so pronounced that cruise discounting today is more frequent than in recent memory. Not only the popularly priced lines (like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, MSC), but the more elegant lines one step up (like Holland America, Princess, Celebrity) have begun discounting their rates with a vengeance.”
I think the biggest reason however, -- is they have just never got around to trying it.
...but once they experience how affordable, rewarding and safe it is to go on a cruise voyage, most would embrace it and make it a part of an annual event... Cruise industry is exploding as more and more people are discovering how cost effective it is to vacation on a cruise ship. More and more are joining the tens of millions who already go on to relax, have fun and recharge regularly.
