Cruise Ship Safety

Safety is a main concern of any individual throughout every day and perhaps even more so on vacation. Cruise ships have long been believed to be as safe as a vacation place can possibly be, but as of late, reports of thefts, injury, disappearances and even death have people wondering: how safe are cruise ships?

While questions have been raised regarding the safety of passengers on cruise ships, few have advocated the safety measures undertaken by cruise ships on behalf of their guests. For example, newer major cruise ships are equipped with multiple surveillance cameras on all decks in order to detect any misdeeds.

As a matter of fact, a recent disappearance of a woman from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship was deemed to have been accidental largely due to footage captured on a surveillance showing the woman climbing from her balcony to a neighboring balcony, and subsequently falling directly into the water below. Security personnel are also employed to decrease the threat of theft and other crimes.

Over ten million people took cruises last year alone. According to statistics, an overwhelming 94% of people believe cruises to be basically safe. Naturally, everyone is encouraged to do their part to be safe on cruise ships. To diminish the threat of theft, do not keep money and valuables in your cabin.

To avoid accidents, refrain from activities like climbing rails and balconies; also, report anyone doing so immediately to the cruise staff. To reduce the threat of unwanted sexual advances, avoid being on deck alone after hours. Above all, limit your intake of alcohol so that you can always be aware of your surroundings.

Keeping your mind on safety will result in a more satisfactory experience on board a cruise ship so that your vacation will be fun, exciting and most importantly, safe.
