Cruise liners can’t seem to get enough of Macs, and neither can their passengers. Apple Insider Prince McLean has reported the installation of thousands of Macs on cruise ships; most notably the Royal Caribbean’s entire Freedom class, which will allow up to 3,600 passengers access to Mac minis.
Royal Caribbean’s new mega-ship Oasis is also working with Apple to incorporate a customised Mac-paradise for its passengers.
This may have resulted as passengers themselves have been boarding ships with their own MacBooks, ready at hand, by pool-sides and sometimes even in restaurants.
Some families are sporting one laptop per family member, and enjoying the free Wi-Fi as they chat to each other simultaneously without neighbouring sunbathers being disturbed by loud conversations.
"I can talk to each individual separately without anyone else hearing [and] I can still listen to my music at the same time," said Jonathan Ragatz.
"My wife and I jokingly refer to [our laptop] as the new addition to the family," said Don Tillman. So it seemed crazy to leave that family member behind whilst they boarded their seven-day cruise.
Apple computers represented only 5 percent of total sales of computers in the United States alone, yet Mac users like to think of themselves as having “95 percent of the passion,” wrote CBS News.
For Mac users, hopping on a cruise ship does not mean merely changing their scenery whilst they log on. There are plenty of hours dedicated to not using the Mac and enjoying the other facilities and destinations, and having the convenience of their Mac laptops or Mac computers provided onboard allows for a completely enriching holiday experience.
The installation of Macs onboard and availability of wireless internet access means that cruise travellers no longer have to feel disconnected from the rest of the world whilst they sail far away from local post offices.
