Many people enjoy wine, but don’t want to focus their entire vacation on a wine themed trip. It doesn’t require being part of a wine cruise led by a sommelier through the heart of France or Italy. There are many ways to explore the wonderful world of wine on your own.
Traveling by land in the United States can uncork some incredible wines. Every state in the US has developed vineyards that produce excellent quality wines of different varieties. Doing some simple research before leaving on your vacation will lead you directly to these vineyards; which offer tours, wine tastings and information about the types of grapes grown and wine produced. It will be well worth the effort to seek out these jewels and visit as many as possible during your vacation.
Even vacations that lead you out of the US borders can reveal some hidden gems of wineries. Obvious destinations of France, Italy and Spain are visited continuously by many wine enthusiasts, but Mexico and Canada also produce a variety of quality wines. A recent trip to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side led to a beautiful and interesting trip down their wine trail, complete with lovely landscapes filled with grape vines and wonderful tastings of some really great vintages. Mexico is a burgeoning contributor to the wine industry; reviving a tradition that began in the 1500’s. Since both countries, Canada and Mexico, are relatively easy destinations to reach for Americans, trips to either can serve as great vacation locations for families as well as wine adventures.
Any vacation can include sightseeing of local attractions along with trips to wineries. If time is limited to include all of the wineries in the region you are visiting, simply make a trip to a local wine shop which carries the products of the vineyards in the area. One great benefit of visiting the areas directly is that visitors can easily and often inexpensively purchase wines in bulk to carry back home.
To add a wine adventure to your upcoming vacation without making it your total focus, simply plan to include trips to local vineyards and wine shops to your vacation itinerary.
