Recognizing Ship Board Dangers

Safety should be a concern whenever traveling on vacation, but especially when on a cruise ship guests should be aware of potential dangers so they are able to avoid them.

Many times when an issue occurs on board a cruise ship it is due to some irresponsible behavior or carelessness. Perhaps those involved were unaware that their actions would result in a traumatic or hazardous manner. By being fully cognizant of the dangers of certain behaviors while on board a cruise ship, you can decrease the chances of them occurring while on your next vacation.

Consuming alcohol can be a vital issue on board cruise ships. Maybe it’s because of the carefree attitudes while on vacation or just getting caught up in the excitement of the moment, but many incidences reported on board can be attributed to someone drinking alcohol in excess. Since exotic, colorful and deliciously flavored drinks are attainable throughout the day on a cruise ship, it is easy to see how an individual may be tempted to overindulge. However, not everyone is able to still act in a responsible manner after several alcoholic beverages have been consumed, and as a result, fights break out, falls and mishaps can cause injuries and people have even fallen overboard and drowned because of drinking in excess.

Avoid taking valuables on a cruise when possible, and keep your stateroom locked when you are not present. Be aware of your surroundings and those around you at all times; just as you would be at any large gathering of people. In this manner, you can be sure that your money and valuables will be as safe as possible at all times.

Although reports of food poisoning are extremely rare when cruising, it is always a possibility when food is prepared in quantities that it may not have been stored properly or kept at the appropriate temperatures. And, with the inclusion of buffets on cruise ships, a number of people are passing by the displayed food within close proximity, leaving the opportunity for bacteria to be passed. These types of occurrences are very rare, however.

Safety should always be first on any guest’s mind when taking a cruise or any vacation. Often, responsible and cautious behavior is enough to keep you safe.
