Every member of the family from 2 years to 103 years receives a break on a family cruise. Cruises have become smarter and have separated their entertainment for children into age groups ranging from 3 (or 2 in some cruises) to 17 years old. These groups are normally divided as follows: 3– 6; 7 – 11; 12-14 and 15 – 17 year olds.
Each group has a wide variety of activities, entertainment and enrichment programs. Therefore, mum and dad can spend some romance time, some relaxation and some fun time without having to think about the whereabouts of their kids. There is babysitting for kids 2 and below but this comes at an extra cost.
However, not all ships are created equal. Investigate deeper into what the cruise brochure is telling you. Some ships provide extensive programs specifically designed for kids and employ trained youth counselors to run their program. A few even have a Director of Youth Activities on staff. Others however just offer movie theatres, splash pool and cyber cafes for teens – not much entertainment and enrichment activities. These activities are included in the cost of the cruise but cyber cafes and arcade games and available at extra cost. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.
Are grandparents traveling with you? No worries as they have their own activities. Everyone can enjoy themselves during the day and meet for lunch and dinner at allocated times.
